Helsinki Poetry Connection: Kesäkiitokset / Summerthanks (w/ photos!)

Hei kaikki rantarunoilijat ja sanasiemailijat!

Kesä 2014 on joidenkin mittapuiden ja mielipiteiden mukaan koko lailla paketissa, ja halusin tässä kiittää sekä omasta puolestani että HPC:n nimissä jokaista, joka ilmaantui kesäajan tapahtumiimme ja varsinkin teille jotka tulivat yleisöjen eteen lausumaan tekstejään. Tämä on hatunnosto teille, open miccaajille jotka teitte tästäkin kesästä ikimuistoisen.

Järjestin HPC Goes Puisto -ulkoilmarunoklubin (tykkään tosta yhdyssanasta) tänä vuonna neljännen kerran putkeen yhdessä hpcläis-apujoukkojen kanssa ja voin ylpeydellä sanoa että "geepeestä" on tullut lähtemätön, jokavuotinen ilo ja riemu. Klubien tuottaminen ja pyörittäminen on paitsi jännittävää ja innostavaa, myös useimmiten haasteiden täyttämää jonglööraamista. Pallojen ollessa ilmassa mitä tahansa voi tapahtua, ja tavallisesti se voi olla kuumottavaakin, kun itsellään on aina jonkinlainen visio illan kulusta. Goes Puiston kanssa tällaiset paineet häviävät, koska kelit ja ympäristöt tekevät kaikesta tavallistakin rennompaa. HPC:n keikoilla illat kuluvat aina omaa, komeaa rataansa -- puistoissa lomamaisem(m)in -- ja se on teidän kaikkien ansiota. Kiitos kolmesta-plus-yhdestä mainiosta puistojuhlasta!

Goes Puisto on antanut minulle myös näkökulmaa HPC:n muuhun toimintaan, auttanut ottamaan muutkin tuotannolliset vastuut rennommin. Odotan jokaista klubi-iltaa kuin kuuta nousevaa, toivottavasti myös tekin!

Syksystä tulee myös runontäyteinen HPC:n kannalta: Kiiski Open Mic jatkaa kuukausittaista kulkuaan, ja kahdet Poetry Jamit tukikohta-Mascotissa -- lokakuussa syyssynttärit ja marraskuussa käännösteemainen, monikielinen iltama -- odottavat teitä kaikkia. Lisää tietoa luvassa lähemmin.

Hiyo, word-surfers and poetry-gulpers!

The summer of 2014 is drawing to a close, but what a summer it was! I wanted to take this opportunity as a producer for the HPC to say thank you to everyone who made it to our events during the past four months -- especially those of you who grabbed the microphone and helped us make the warm days ring with truths and images. You all made this summer a glorious one.

This was the fourth year in a row that I organized the HPC Goes Puisto "open air open mic", and it's with great pleasure that I say it is an honor to bring poetry into the many hearts of the city each year; the GP has taken its place as one of the HPC's primary poetry clubs. In addition to being exciting and truly inspiring, producing and hosting events tends to also amount to a juggling act that is never quite free of the strain that a proud parent feels for their offspring. With a room full of poets comes a room full of responsibility, and taking setbacks in stride and letting poets work their magic independently of my own vision is an important part of making HPC clubs work. Every poetry night comes off perfectly, no matter what, because it's something we create together and experience or confront together. The Goes Puisto club has taught me this better than any other experience, because I'm now a little more able to infuse everything I do for the HPC with sunlight.

Our outdoor open mics at Karhupuisto, Alppipuisto and Kamppi (AND Käpylä!) all came off beautifully, and it's thanks to all of you who came and who brought open-mindedness, creativity, respect and joy with you.

Autumn is almost here, and for the HPC that means that the Kiiski Open Mic club will continue to offer open micers of all descriptions monthly opportunities to perform, while our flagship club, the Poetry Jam, will be coming around twice more this year: with a partytime atmosphere in October and a multilingual translation-themed night in November. More info on those as it comes in.

I thank our warm-up performers KASPER and Robert Meriruoho and their supremely talented accompanists -- I thank Vitali Gusatinsky for the stellar photowork at Alppari -- and I thank you all for being, thinking, feeling and sharing with us.
